Accuracy

How accurate are synthetic respondents?

Accuracy depends entirely on calibration. Pervasive Insights™' synthetic panels are calibrated topic by topic against a brand's real prior studies, with most calibrated topics landing within roughly 1 to 5 percentage points of how human respondents actually answered, and each topic carrying a visible confidence figure so users know exactly how much to trust each result.

What does "accuracy" mean for a synthetic panel?

Accuracy is how closely the synthetic panel's answers match what real humans said on the same topic, measured as a gap in percentage points. A smaller gap means the synthetic answer is closer to the human result.

How is it measured here?

Pervasive Insights™ measures the average gap between synthetic and human answers for each topic and each segment, using your own prior studies as the ground truth. Because the comparison is against your real respondents, the accuracy figure is specific to your brand, not a generic benchmark.

Why transparency matters

Some topics are synthetic-ready and some are honestly marked not yet calibrated. Showing the gap on the topics you can use, and admitting the ones you cannot yet, is what makes the results trustworthy and safe to act on.

How this compares to the wider field

Independent studies of synthetic respondents report roughly 85 to 92 percent parity with human answers on suitable tasks. The consistent guidance across the field is to use synthetic research for fast, early-stage work and to validate high-stakes decisions with human respondents. Calibrating on your own data, and showing the gap per topic, is what moves a synthetic panel from interesting to decision-grade.

Frequently asked questions

Can synthetic respondents replace human studies?

No. They complement human research by front-loading fast iteration, after which humans validate the high-stakes calls.

How do you prevent fabricated answers?

A no-fabrication rule. Topics that are not yet calibrated return blanks instead of guesses.

Does accuracy improve over time?

Yes. Each validated human test tightens future reads on related topics.

What accuracy can I expect for my brand?

It depends on how much data we calibrate against. With an existing corpus we calibrate from it; with little or no prior research we calibrate using a couple of targeted surveys. Either way, we show the expected band per topic up front.
